At the 2019 World Economic Forum in Davos, Larry Fink, Chairman and CEO of BlackRock, published his annual letter to CEOs, titled ‘Purpose & Profit’. He said: “Without a sense of purpose, no company, either public or private, can achieve its full potential. It will ultimately lose the license to operate from key stakeholders.”
He went onto say that “Purpose is not the sole pursuit of profits but the animating force for achieving them.” and added, “Profits are in no way inconsistent with purpose – in fact, profits and purpose are inextricably linked.” https://bit.ly/37spb6h
Harvard Business Review and EY reported that 84% of executives believe an organisation with a shared purpose will be more successful in transformation. The Advertising Research Foundation said that 83% of companies that overperform on revenue growth link everything they do to brand purpose, as opposed to only 31% of under-performers – Insights 2020.
It’s time to define:
WHY you do what you do.
WHY your organisation exists.
WHY you serve a purpose or cause (beyond the profit motive).
